Beith Arts Guild Recital

iCal Import

Around the World in 80 Minutes

SCQ recital for Beith Arts Guild.

A folk-themed musical tour of the globe in the capable hands of the Scottish Clarinet Quartet. Setting out from the shores of Great Britain to the strains of a cheerful march and variations, we cross the English Channel to encounter the music of the villages and gypsies of rural France. On the other side of the Alps we visit a war-torn Vienna, then travel further east to discover exotic rhythms and instruments in Bulgaria and celebratory Klezmer music in Russia. In China we perform a musical version of an ancient decorative art, while pentatonic modes remind us of home. Sailing across the Pacific  and rounding Cape Horn we put in to Argentina for a history lesson in how to dance the Tango, before moving north to experience how geography has shaped jazz from the West Coast style to that of New York. Finally we return to our own temperate island…
