SCQ commission US composer Francine Trester

We’re excited to announce that we have commissioned a new work from Francine Trester, Professor of Composition at Berklee College of Music (Boston). Last year Francine worked with members of SCQ during a visit to Scotland: we loved her chamber music and are very pleased that she has agreed to write for us. To be titled “Many Miles Away…”, each movement of the piece is headed by a haiku-like quotation from Sir Walter Scott. Francine writes, “Last summer was my third trip to Edinburgh, and seeing that final quote (‘…Piled deep and massy, close and high, Mine own romantic town’) at Edinburgh Castle really moved me and left an indelible impression. The sonority and colors of clarinet quartet I think is perfect for expressing that feeling. So glad for the opportunity.”
