Gameshow Outpatient Commission

Inspired by video games and the theme of extraterrestrial contact, SCQ’s latest commission combines music from composer Matt Rogers (recent recipient of a prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Artists) with live video from international prize-winning filmmaker Matt Hulse. The project has been made possible through the generous support of Creative Scotland.

Rogers has previously written for the quartet in a contemporary classical idiom, but The Parlour Guide to Exo-Politics takes him in a new direction: towards his recent electronic music influenced by the chip tune genre and produced under the pseudonym Gameshow Outpatient.

The Parlour Guide to Exo-Politics was first performed in November 2011 in Cheltenham, for Cheltenham Music Society Contemporary Concerts, and subsequently for Salford University in its inaugural concert in the brand-new Digital Media Performance Lab in MediaCityUK.

The Scottish première will take place on 10 November 2012 as part of Sound, north-east Scotland’s festival of new music, with the support of the Hope Scott Trust and New Music Scotland. Full details available here.
